About Peligo

Founder, Catherine Horzen, established the idea for a redesign of a beach chair from the 60s at a garage sale in 2016. Catherine has had an affinity for the beach her whole life, so it was natural for her to start a company revolved around beach products. Her parents were moving and holding a garage sale to clear out unwanted items. Reminded that she had seen this thing in the garage her whole life but never asked what it was, Catherine picked up the wood and fabric piece and asked. Her mother responded with enthusiasm explaining that it was a beach chair and demonstrated how to use it. Catherine was sold.

She enlisted her Uncle Tony to help design the frame with some improvements and her Aunt Karen to assist with the redesign of the fabric portion. The frame was developed in a barn/workshop and the fabric redesign on the dining room table, on Benton Road, establishing the company’s first name. Catherine later took the first design of fabric home and made a few more changes with the expertise of her mother.

Peligo was settled on as the official name, as a nod to the iconic beach dwelling pelican and the ever indulging daydream of white sandy beaches of an archipelago.

Each Peligo is hand assembled in Southern California.
